Gulf Whitewater; Kayak Surfing Gulf Shores, AL

December 7, 2014 / Uncategorized / No Comments

With all types of kayaks in our trailer, coming to the coast can mean fishing, touring or, when the waves are high, surfing. This is really ideal for someone like me who can’t sit still. The Gulf of Mexico isn’t known for great surfing, or really any surfing at all. I was excited to see a surf report with Gulf Shores specifically listed and took this as encouragement. On our second day, the wind shifted and the swell grew to shoulder high for the next few days. I paddled this in a variety of boats from the Jackson Rockstar which is a blast in ocean waves to the Karma RG that was fast and allowed me to surf on the smallest ripples. But the 2015 JK Zen was really fun with lots of speed and maneuverability. This video is from one afternoon in the new Zen.
